Archive Site

Site Purpose: An archive for closed properties so users can find content that has been archived.

My tasks: When some publications closed, our company still wanted to retain an archive of the old content so it was still accessible to users. The former CMS provider gave us a dump of all the assets in tiered folders, which was quite extensive. I developed a hierarchal structure within a database to make these assets searchable from an online tool. Users can search by multiple publications at a time and have options for date range and keyword searches. The results list where the content was published and the date to assist them in their search.

I also designed the site, wanting to keep on a clean, minimal look so users can focus on the information that they are searching.

The end result was a quick tool that organizes a large amount of data to assist users in easily finding information they are seeking.

Entertainment Site

Site Purpose: Entertainment site featuring local entertainment news and information for users within its market.

My tasks: This site was unique in that it needed to be content rich but require little effort from staff to keep the site current. “Sound Check” was the only unique staff-provided content uploaded to the site. The rest of the articles utilizes feeds. Users were welcome to submit local musician listings to the site, which we received and uploaded to the site.

For this site I designed and developed the front-facing pages, including the submission form for the musicans. On the back-end I designed and developed a custom CMS system for the “Sound Check” content to allow the staff to add and maintain the content within that section. I also set the ad tagging and place site tracking on the site.

Provided material: Site logo, “Sound Check” logo, musician images (user provided)

Site Purpose: Comprehensive list of all types of camps for users within its market.

My tasks: Design and develop a site that allows users to easily browse the site’s list of camps. This is a directory site with many different categories so finding a way to easily navigate through all the different avenues users can search was important. Users can search through the collapsable category list, or use the search too to search by location or keyword or look up camps by name. I also set the ad tagging and place site tracking on the site.

The site also includes forms for user submissions for both camp listings and advertisers interested in becoming a sponsor on the page.

High School Sports Site

Site Purpose: A center for high school sports news and information for users within its market. Site consisted of several sub-sites to further narrow the region for users. Provide high quality photo galleries for users so they could easily view and purchase photos from featured games or events.

My tasks: Design and develop a responsive niche site that the company’s editorial teams utilized to be a center for high school sports news. Develop a responsive photo gallery tool that was easy to include within the story content, using SmugMug galleries. Photo gallery included ad position slides and sponsor ad tag to allow the site to create better revenue opportunities.

This site also included building a custom CMS system used by the editorial team to easily allow them to add content and generate a photo gallery only using a URL.

Users could view information for each school in the coverage area as well as narrow stories by school or sport to assist them in finding the news they were most interested in. The site also included scoreboard information, stat pages, related articles and game box information. I also set the ad tagging and place site tracking on the site.

It was a content-rich site that required the ability to quickly update content and the ability to easily relate assets of the site with each other, creating a positive user experience.

Publication Portal Page

Site Purpose: A simply portal page allowing users to easily view the latest print version of a publication and the ability to find archived issues as well as company information.

My tasks: I designed and developed the responsive layout of the page so users could easily find the latest print edition of the publication. I embedded the tool that the staff used for uploading the content so the users could easily navigate to their desired content. This also allowed us to capture site traffic, provide publication information and monetize with ad positions instead of simply linking the user to a vendor’s url.

Provided material: The view window area/tools (PageFlip Pro), property logo.
